My previous and future travel experiences (by Ronny Errmann)

Amazing how the clouds behave like a river. They overflow a mountain ridge on La Palma, some warm up so much that they evaporate on the way down while others just keep moving along. The see of clouds in the foreground is also really interesting to watch, the ups and downs the relative movement between air packages.

I think this is one of the loveliest stretches of the cycle path along the Danube river. It’s narrow and hilly and so the area is quite empty of people, and more importantly, cars.
This was the second time I cycled it on a tour from Thuringia to visit friends in Switzerland. River cycle paths have the advantage of being (mostly) flat, hence the heavy load on the pannier isn’t too hard to carry. And it’s surprising, that after few days the body gets fully used to that load.

The hike from hut to hut along the Norwegian-Swedish Border had many great views. Being so remotely was nice. It also made the hikes harder, as we had to bring food for a week, sleeping bag, and every thing else that might be needed for a week away from civilisation, but every arrival felt good. Unfortunately, in the evenings we were too tired to watch out for polar lights, hence only saw them afterwards.

I have no memory, where the photo was taken. But I do like the variety of different greens, together with the colourful spots from the summer flowers.

Two work appointments in Thailand were a week apart, and instead of suffering more from travel home and back, and cause more CO2, I used the time for some holiday, besides other places I stayed in Khao Sok. Besides the trip to the lake, I only travelled by foot or with the bicycle there. This photo was taken on one of the cycling tours.

A lovely hike in the last days of September in the Austrian Alps.

It was Winter and where I lived I didn’t see much snow. But as I crave some snow every year, and checking the snow measurements of the nearby mountain area, I saw that several 100 metres higher there was a good amount of snow. So I decided to get on the train, go to the last train station (Katzhütte), and then cycle up the last 350 metres to Neuhaus am Rennsteig (at 800m). And while the whole trip to there was more like a spring day, finally, thin layers of snow appeared. I found a place to lock the bicycle, switched to winter boots, and then headed into the forest, where the above picture was taken. It was a lovely walk and so good for my mental well being.
On the way home I cycled to Rudolstadt, 600 m downhill in 40 km was another wonderful experience.

It has been already nearly 5 years ago, that I visited Scotland. I want to go again for a second time, the remote landscape is something so beautiful. Just looking at the image and remembering the time helps me feel relaxed.

The last Transit of Venus happened in summer 2012. I had the chance to participate at a workshop about planet search around other stars. The day of the transit we spent on the summit of Haleakala, the highest mountain of Maui, Hawaii. From there we observed the transit and also learned a lot about geology of earth. During the hike over the crater field, I took this picture.
